March Fong Eu Achievement Award

Montana Secretary of State after receiving the March Fong Eu Achievement Award

My staff and I have worked tirelessly to improve notaries’ effectiveness and accountability throughout Montana. We offer free notary training in towns across the state as well as online. It’s not only important to me that notaries are educated and informed, but also that they achieve the highest level of professionalism. To this end, I championed for notary journals which act as a safeguard against allegations for fraud, forgery, and identity theft for individual and businesses.

At the beginning of the summer I attended the National Notary Association’s conference in Austin, Texas, where I was awarded the March Fong Eu Achievement Award. This award is granted each year to a public official who is committed to constantly improving the effectiveness, appearance, and high standards of the United States Notary.

Centennial Project

Presenting Mike Flaherty, owner and president of the Great Falls Paper & Supply Co. with the Secretary of State’s Centennial Award during a celebration ceremony at his business in Great Falls.

The Secretary of State’s Centennial Project was started in 2010 to commemorate businesses in Montana who have been registered with our office for 100 years or more. Since 2010 we've recognized hundreds of businesses across the state for their centennial achievement. This summer I’ve already been to multiple ceremonies where I presented awards to businesses.

It’s up to each of us to continue to celebrate our local businesses and organizations whether they have been around for one day, or for one century. For a list of businesses and organizations celebrating their Centennial this year, visit us at sos.mt.gov/Centennial.

I am pleased to introduce Shelle Lindholm, of Kalispell, as this summer’s “Treasured” Montana Artist. Shelle’s ability to capture the spirit of Montana wildlife is a unique gift, and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to share her work with the public.

Shelle Lindholm’s exhibit will be on display May through August 2013 in the front lobby of the Secretary of State’s office at no cost to the public. Past and present “Treasured” Montana Artist exhibits are featured in an online gallery at sos.mt.gov/Gallery.

Welcome Sue!

This summer we welcomed a new team member to the Secretary of State's Office as my new Executive Assistant, Sue Tinsley! Sue comes to us from the Department of Commerce, where she was responsible for administrating “Quality Schools Grants".

We are excited and so lucky to have her! Welcome to SOS, Sue!
