McCulloch Unveils “Treasured” Montana Artist
Sean R. Heavey, of Glasgow, Montana
HELENA - Secretary of State Linda McCulloch on Friday introduced photographer Sean R. Heavey, of Glasgow, as the next “Treasured” Montana Artist. Heavey is the seventh Montana artist to receive the notable distinction since McCulloch launched the exhibit in January 2009.
“If a picture is worth a thousand words, Sean’s exhibit speaks volumes,” McCulloch said. “While the photos are recent, they reflect a forgotten time that should be remembered and shared with each passing generation.”
Heavey’s regional photography exhibit of Northeastern Montana titled “The Wind Blows” includes the Internet phenomenon “The Mothership”, a photo of a supercell thunderstorm rolling across the plains. The photo won a 2010 National Geographic award.
“I’m rarely seen without a camera in my hand,” Heavey said. “I enjoy driving dusty roads, walking Montana’s untamed lands, and discovering the rich spirit of all that lies under the Big Sky. I’m humbled by the honor of being selected as Secretary McCulloch’s “Treasured” Montana Artist.”
Heavey’s photos have been published worldwide, including in the United Kingdom’s largest newspaper “The Sun”, France’s “le Figaro”, and on Australia’s NineMSN.
“The Wind Blows” exhibit will be on public display in the Secretary of State’s Office at the State Capitol in Helena through April 2011. To view photos from this exhibit and other collections, logon to Heavey’s website at alconartz.com.
