Among the responsibilities of the Montana Secretary of State is the authority to appoint all notaries public for the state of Montana, and also to provide official state certification of documents that are being sent to countries around the world. There are approximately 20,000 commissioned notariesĀ in the state whose job it is to serve as the state’s official witness to the signature, oath or acknowledgement of the persons who request their services.

Secretary McCulloch and the staff in the Notary and Certifications Section are dedicated to providing information, training, and support to all notaries public and to assist the public with any questions or issues regarding the office of the notary public.
