Senate Bill 306, which revised Montana’s notary laws, is now in effect. Some of the most important changes to the notary laws are summarized below. Additionally, in conjunction with the new laws, the Secretary of State has adopted several administrative rules, which can be found below.

As a result of the new laws, the material on our website has changed. Our on-line training and notary handbook have been updated. Also, the application forms for becoming a notary and renewing a notary commission have been combined into one application form. This application form must be used for all notary applications. The form for updating notary information has also been changed. And, our website now contains a link to the Montana Notary Public Examination, which, as of October 1, 2015, all new notary applicants (except those already commissioned as a Montana Notary Public) must pass in order to be commissioned as a Notary Public for the State of Montana.
